Things to do in the local area

aka things we like and enjoy!!

Walks...

One of the  main reasons we love St Bees is the local coastal walks up to St Bees Head and around to Whitehaven and also the close proximity to the Western and Northern Fells and Lakes.

Nearby there is access to the Lakes of Wastwater, Buttermere and Ennerdale.

OR if "getting up high" is the aim ScaFell Pike, Great Gable, Kirk Fell and Whin Rigg, amongst others, offer stunning views of the Western area.

St Bees is also at the beginning of Wainwrights Coast to Coast walk.

Local attractions...

In nearby Whitehaven there is the Beacon, which often has family exhibitions and events planned, or the Rum Story.

Further afield is a definite family favourite La'al Ratty (The Ravenglass and Eskdale Steam Railway and Muncaster Castle.

Food...

We have two fantastic local pubs The Queens and The Manor.

Both are dog-friendly and offer a range of beers, drinks plus some amazing food.

The Queens offers home cooked pizza's and also has a pool table.

Both have entertainment evenings with quizzes and live music.

Plus...

If you love ice cream, then St. Bees beach has an amazing café and ice cream shop called Hartley's. A little further away, or a short train ride, is Seascale, where the new Mawstons ice cream shop opened in the summer of 2024 to great reviews. And don't forget, even your four-legged friends love ice cream!
